Spotlight on Inclusion

Together Through Music Live: This was a partnership project between Lincolnshire Music Service, Sinfonia Viva and Orchstras Live. Three musicians from Sinfonia Viva worked in Erseby Special School, Spilsby and Tulip Academy, Spalding on a creative project using songs, creative composing and instruments to prepare a performance for friendly audiences. It has been an absolute joy to work with Raph Clarkson who led the workshops. Our aim is to provide CPD opportunities for LMS tutors so that we can widen our instrumental and classroom music teaching delivery into more special educational needs settings from September 2024. We would also  like to support more children and young people to engage in group music playing  by supporting schools to establish a wide variety of school music groups and enrichment activities. Great Little Orchestra Project. Congratulations to Charlie Atkinson and Rachel Weston; two of our County ensemble musicians who applied for, and were successful in gaining a place on the first ever Music Education Hubs East Midlands career pathways residential course. The week long course takes place 8^th – 12 July at Nottingham University. This is an opportunity for East Midlands wide young musicians to work alongside experienced music inclusion practitioners to develop their musicianship as well as perform and help run workshops in special education schools. Look out for Charlie and Rachel next year who will take on volunteering roles in our county to support musical inclusion.

Creative Journeys Spalding Music Centre students had the opportunity this term to take part in an intergenerational project funded by a partnership between South Holland District Council , Sinfonia Viva and  Orchestras Live.  After an intensive four weeks of rehearsals and creative song composing our students got to perform with the Derby based orchestral musicians; Sinfonia  Viva. This amazing community concert saw world premiere performances of the new compositions created by our young musicians and older residents from the district. It was a heartwarming opportunity to experience the joy of music making for young and old and we finished off with well earned cups of tea, cake and social time to chat together.

Calling all school Designated Teachers for Looked After and care experienced children. Did you know that we work closely with Lincolnshire Virtual School to support fully funded instrumental learning programmes for this vulnerable cohort of young people? We can deliver bespoke length 1:1 lessons with trauma informed instrumental tutors across the county to meet the individual needs of this vulnerable cohort. Funding could also be used to support music intervention groups that include care experienced children in your school. We also asses the needs prior to lessons to ensure instruments and resources are fully adapted in partnership with  Home (ohmi.org.uk) for people who are physically disabled. Climate and environmental agenda

This year around 1000 children from Lincolnshire schools took part in the Sing to Change project. This climate awareness project saw children learning the song ‘Change’ by Dane Myers and participating in a transatlantic Boston UK to Boston USA  recording and documentary.
