Together through Music
Available to schools with Lincs Music Hub Partnership
A high-quality music education is the right of every pupil. It should be inclusive of all,regardless of additional needs, in both mainstream and specialist education settings.
Schools should aim high with music – an individual child’s needs may make some aspects of teaching, learning and performance different, but there should be no compromise on quality provision.
Music education for pupils with SEND must be a long-term provision, sustained, rehearsed and nurtured carefully through effective personal interaction and collaboration, trust and time.
We can provide specialist tutors, support, networks and adjustments to enable all children to fulfil their musical potential. Adjustments may include a range from differentiating resources, to providing specific equipment, adaptation or technology to ensure music is accessible.
The cost is £53.10 per hour
Inclusive Choir
A FREE inclusive choir with both online and in-person rehearsals, celebrating that everyone has their own way of sharing their voice.
The Inclusive Choir is open to anyone up to age 25 and is free to join. We aim to be as inclusive as possible, and actively try to remove barriers to participation from those with severe and profound learning disabilities.
The choir encourages participation and expression in any way, including using Makaton signing, singing, making sounds on instruments, using technology or through movement and dance.
There are no auditions, and you do not need any previous experience or to be able to read music notation, and family and friends are welcome to join in too!
MEHEM Uprising
The award-winning UpRising programme seeks to improve the quality and consistency of inclusive music-making across the East Midlands and beyond.
UpRising provides a more equitable offer for pupils with additional needs in mainstream schools, special education settings and alternative provision.
UpRising offers a range of training events for instrumental teachers, school teachers and TAs, and inclusion leaders to develop inclusive music-making practice
MEHEM UpRising is committed to providing training and events to support all music-making opportunities and teaching happening in the East Midlands.
The UpRising Resource Balloon
An ‘all thriller, no filler’ bank of resources for all those who want to better engage young people with additional learning needs in music-making.
Each resource was created in response to requests from instrumental tutors and classroom teachers, with a focus on areas of practice that aren’t well supported elsewhere.
We cover: working with pupils with complex needs (PMLD), inclusive ensembles, engaging pupils with specific needs, an exploration of the lived experience of disabled educators, and special school curriculum development.
All of the resources were created as part of Music Education Hub East Midlands’ UpRising project. They are grounded in the Social Model of Disability: the imperative to build all aspects of the musical experience around the needs, interests and abilities of individual learners.
