More About Claire
Claire’s love of music began at six when she started learning piano, followed by flute at eight after seeing an older pupil perform in a school concert. She loved the sound and thought the flute looked “shiny!” Clarinet and saxophone soon followed, alongside studying A Level Music and teaching diplomas in instrumental and vocal teaching. Claire also began tutoring privately while at college, discovering early on how much she enjoyed helping others learn.
As a young musician, Claire became Principal Flute with Tees Valley Youth Wind Band, progressing to the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra and auditioning for the National Youth Orchestra. She enjoyed performing and touring with orchestras and choirs, experiences that showed her the incredible opportunities music can open up.
Claire began her professional music education career in 2012 with West Sussex Music Trust, teaching piano, woodwind and theory through individual and group lessons before becoming Head of Theory. She also toured and performed with the Trust’s choir and orchestra. Alongside music, Claire has always had a creative side, studying Photography to degree level and briefly working in photojournalism before returning to music education.
After moving to Lincolnshire and joining Lincolnshire Music Service, Claire has continued to teach across schools and music centres, supporting young musicians from their very first notes through to examinations, ensembles, concerts and wider performance opportunities.
Young Sounds is particularly close to Claire’s heart. She experienced teachers who encouraged and believed in her, as well as others who were less encouraging, and understands how much difference the right person and the right opportunity can make. Her own journey began with simply seeing someone play an instrument she thought looked shiny — and that moment ultimately changed her life.
As a Young Sounds Lead Tutor, Claire is passionate about removing barriers, opening doors and helping every young person discover what they can achieve through music.
