School FAQs

  • Our NEW Lincolnshire Music hub School Partnership is aligned to the The power of music to change lives: a national plan for music education – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) which states that School Music Development Plans should consider how your school will work with its local Music Hub to support and together build a high-quality music education offer.

The NEW partnership offer provides an offer of support and partner accreditation to Lincolnshire Music education Hub.

How do I buy Lincolnshire Music Hub School Partnership and/or other services? All products and services can be booked via EduLincs: Lincolnshire Music Service – EduLincs – Lincolnshire County Council

If you have any questions or queries please contact musicservice@lincolnshire.gov.uk

  • Music Membership was introduced over a decade ago and has remained a popular product throughout. The product offers a high level of subsidy to purchase a bundle of services and products. Given the high level of buy-back, it has become increasingly difficult to manage with those schools with the most means benefiting more therefore not providing an equitable offer. Our DfE funding has remained static since 2012 and therefore the price increase to resolve the gap in funding wouldn’t be sustainable in the long term for most schools.

We have also noticed that some schools have requested some products ‘as part of the bundle’ however their licenses have remained dormant which isn’t a good use of the targeted DfE funding.

The introduction of the NEW Music Hubs from September 2024 aligned to the National Plan for Music Education is the perfect opportunity to make key changes with a fairer and more accessible offer for ALL schools.

Families FAQs

  • Initially please e-mail musicservice@lincolnshire.gov.uk outlining some key details such as;

    1) the name of the school your child attends

    2) what year group they are in

    3) what instrument they would like to learn

    4) whether you’re looking for individual, shared or small group lessons.

We will then check tutor and instrument availability at your school.

Once confirmed you will be asked to formally register and book via our SpeedAdmin portal however we can provide some support. If we’re unable to meet your requirements, we will either place your child on a waiting list and/or outline some other options for you.  Please note deadlines are in place for starting tuition: Key Information for Families

  • In addition to our formal T&Cs, we have transferred the key information to an ‘Easy to Digest’ format which states the deadlines and processes for families: Terms & Conditions

  • We offer individual (15,20 and 30 mins), shared (20 and 30 mins) and group (30 mins) lessons on a range of instruments.

Prices start from £6.30 (3% increase 2024/2025) for a 30-min group lesson however financial support is available for some families

  • Payment is made via our SpeedAdmin portal and is required in advance of the lessons starting. An instalment plan can also be arranged at 0% interest.

  • Sometimes our LMS tutors are fully booked and you will be placed on a waiting list until a place becomes available. We will liaise with you to make you aware of this and also try to offer an alternative where possible.

  • We offer financial support for families eligible for free school meals and also Looked After Children. We also have some non-means tested grants which can be applied for those families in need.

    See Financial Support

  • We offer an Instrument Hire service at rates that are below commercial rates.

  • Lessons generally take place in schools during the school day. Our tutors do their utmost to rotate lesson times so your child does not miss the same lesson each week. It is the responsibility of the child to ensure they arrive on time at the time stated either on SpeedAdmin and/or on the school music notice board.

  • We require 4 weeks’ notice to cancel a lesson which can be done either through the SpeedAdmin portal or by e-mailing musicservice@lincolnshire.gov.uk.

  • If our LMS tutor is absent, without notice, then the lesson will not be charged and ‘made-up’ at a later date. If this has not been possible by the end of the academic year, the lesson will be credited or refunded. We try to deliver 36 lessons within an academic year.

  • Communication is important and families can liaise with their LMS tutor via the SpeedAdmin portal (chat function). Your child will also receive an annual report.

  • We have a range of music groups across the county which are for all standards, instruments and locations.

  • Lessons can be cancelled via the SpeedAdmin portal and also by e-mailing musicservice@lincolnshire.gov.uk. Please note deadlines are in place for the cancellation of LMS lessons: Key Information for Families

  • We always try to resolve concerns quickly and therefore please raise the concern with the LMS tutor at the initial stage. You can also contact musicservice@lincolnshire.gov.uk if you wish to raise it more formally. LCC does have a formal complaints procedure which is detailed here: Make a complaint – Before you make a complaint – Lincolnshire County Council
