County Groups 2024

The 2023-24 season of our County Groups came to a magnificent finale at St. Botolph’s Church, Boston in April.

Once again, the young people in both the Lincolnshire Youth String Orchestra and the Lincolnshire Youth Wind Orchestra worked hard during their three Saturday rehearsals and the four-day residential course at Repton.

This year’s repertoire had a ‘film music’ vibe to it. LYSO opened the concert with Tchaikovsky’s ‘Serenade for Strings’, part of which was used in a 1950’s obscure film, followed by the iconic score from ‘Psycho’. The orchestra really captured the terrifying mood of the music, and for those of us who have seen the film, you could visualize every scene!

LYWO lightened the mood opening with Shostakovich’s ‘Waltz from Jazz Suite No 2’, a piece that makes regular appearances in film and TV, and medleys from ‘Anastasia’ and ‘The Incredibles’.

Once again, the wind, percussion and strings joined forces to perform the ‘Finale’ from Saint-Saens Symphony No 3 – ‘The Organ Symphony’. Some of you will remember this music being used in the film ‘Babe’. We were particularly proud that the solo organist was our very own Thomas Li. Thomas is a multi-talented young man who is also a member of the saxophone section of LYWO.
