Lincolnshire Special Schools come ‘Together through Music’
Lincolnshire Music Education Hub is launching ‘Together through Music’: a project of school-based music sessions, training, and network building that will result in a unique, sustainable music education for all young people with additional needs in Lincolnshire.
In response to Lincolnshire County Council’s ambitious Building Communities of Specialist Support Together in Lincolnshire, ‘Together through Music’ has been developed to support the changing education provision for young people with additional learning needs in the county. The focus of the project will be on the young people and the development of their identity as creative musicians through composition and performanceopportunities. The project will also concentrate on workforce development, including the formation of a network between classroom teachers, music coordinators and community music leaders.
Each participating special school in Lincolnshire will receive five days of specialist music provision and CPD, delivered in partnership with nationally acclaimed music technology specialist Ben Sellers of Transformance Music. They will also have access to online resources and support with curriculum development. The project will see the creation of a music network, offering a sustainable platform for sharing best practice, training and support, to ensure all schools have the knowledge and understanding to reach and engage all young people with additional needs in Lincolnshire.
Commenting on the upcoming music project, Sheridan Dodsworth, Children’s Services manager,
Special Educational Needs and Disability Service said “Pupils with additional learning needs can experience exclusion from all parts of society but school is a place where they should experience friendship, belonging and community. Music can be used in a way for these young people to communicate and express themselves. Together through Music will inspire, transform and connect pupils by improving access to recourse, expertise and support”
